Like allot of humanity, we are hopelessly addicted to the Internet.
Access have gotten allot easier in the last few years. Starlink solves most remote access issues - for a price.
Four and five G mobile phone connections are currently more price competitive close to urban or native communities in Canada. Tether your other mobile devices to your mobile phone and you are good to go. Keep an eye on data costs as some mobile carriers may charge ridiculous premiums for going over their data limits.
WiFi is often available at marina's or near hotels, cruise ships and resturants. The quality of these kind of connections varies wildly based on distance to the network devices, quality of the network, weather and other radio interference.
We have single side band radio equipment to send and receive text emails and voice communications. This is a low bandwidth and somewhat fluky system, but with the persistence and patience it works. And it works over great distances - thousands of miles. This equipment is falling out of common use, but I am reluctant to remove it. If a nearby star goes nova or some other unexpected event fries the sensitive satellite or mobile systems, SSB might prove useful again. Redundancy = good on a sailboat voyaging to faraway places
